What are you thinking about?

“Writers by their very nature spend their time thinking about, wondering about, delving into, trying to understand the very things that the rest of the world doesn’t like to think about.” - Harry Crews

I used to carry a slip of paper around in my wallet with several quotes, including this one. They were all concerned with writing; or more aptly, with surviving the writing life. For me, putting words on the page is half the process. The other half is all about living courageously; accepting myself enough to imagine, and then describe, the world according to Cynthia. Once you’ve written something, you can deny you did it, but you cannot deny you thought it. When a piece of writing goes out, you’re giving the world a window into your uniqueness. You are making public a crucial sliver of your identity.
